So, Before the Snowpocalypse Came…

I attended a wedding and got to dress up!

With my work schedule, it doesn’t happen often, so I decided to take as much advantage as I could. I had time to shop a massive sale at Lane Bryant and picked up some dresses. The dress I wore in yesterday’s New Year’s post was one dress, and this was the other one I picked up:

I had to add a cami underneath (because, helloooo, boobs! also, cold), and put on a wrap (because sleeveless, and, again, cold). It’s black with copper dots on it, and it’s so pretty.

It’s a rarity for me to get to wear heels too, because retail+heels=bad day for Char. So, I picked up these beauties:

Got ’em from Payless! Copper, gold, and a smidge of green, so pretty!

And I’m gonna take a minute here to vent a bit: hi, shoe stores? Some of us wear 10 1/2 to 11 shoes. Some of us also want said 10 1/2 to 11 shoe to be PRETTY, dammit. Don’t be giving me clodhoppers because I have big feet. There is NO reason for that. Please to have that in stock, for the love of all that is glittery. Thanks.

The day’s makeup: neutral as usual. But I love how it came out.

The best part was I finally got to use my Urban Decay Vice 2 palette. The lip is a Sephora lipstick that’s probably past it’s prime but I love it so.

And finally? The nails, of course! There’s no way I go to a wedding and not have them done! But again, nice and neutral:

Apparently, this outfit was all about the black, brown, and metallic. Whole mani is Julep, and I’m sure you’ll recognize the gold flakes as Gianna. I have gotten more mileage out of that polish than I thought I would. It’s an awesome touch of sparkle where you need it.

And there you have it! I’m gonna go bury myself under the covers until it thaws outside (or until I have to get dressed in the morning. -_-) Until next time, stay beautiful!

Nail Adventures: Julep December Box

Hi Lovelies!

So, right before I left on my mini vacation last week, my Julep Maven box came. I packed all 5 of my newest colors in my luggage, but not before I took a picture of the haul:

I received 5 nail colors (my two for the month, plus 3 add ons), an eyeshadow palette, and hair ties. Bonus: I also received a coupon code for 40% off my next purchase on Julep! The eyeshadow palette was a really nice set of neutrals (browns and golds), and a good mix of matte and shimmer. Really nice, and will be awesome for my day to day makeup looks.

But of course, y’all came for the polish, right? Let me show you them:

photo 1 (4)

From left to right: Evelyn (rich grape purple creme), Misti (dusty teal creme), Joelle (holographic silver glitter), Christine (chocolate brown with silver sheen), and Gianna (gold leaf). Evelyn and Misti are a part of this month’s collection. Christine and Joelle are sold as a duo add on, and Gianna was an add on as well. I’m really excited to use Gianna because it will give an awesome granite look to a nail (I have a nail look coming that showcases this perfectly.)

Oh, and by the way: for those nail polish fanatics that either heard of Julep but haven’t tried it, or for those who like to look at their polishes in person before buying them: Julep has a Pop Up Shop coming Friday! I kept seeing the buzz about it online, and since I follow them on Instagram (@julepmaven) when it was confirmed, I was stoked! I’ll have to do a spreadsheet to keep from rebuying the same colors. Having written that, I ought to be ashamed for owning that much nail polish, but you know what? I’ve got no shame. ūüôā Go here for more details and the address. I’m headed there after work tomorrow, because it will only be open for a week. Maybe I’ll see some of y’all there!

Until next time, stay beautiful!

Disclaimer: I’m not being paid to advertise for Julep, I just love their stuff that much and want to share!

Nail Adventures: Julep Mystery Box

Hi my lovelies!

I’ve professed my love for ¬†Julep on many occasions. For the Julep Mavens, we have the opportunity to get the monthly Mystery Box. This month’s theme is Diamonds, and for good reason:

photo 2 (1)

These are the stars of the Diamond Mystery Box: Antonia (left) and Geo (right). Bright, sparkly, holographic glitters with diamond shaped chunks and fine glitter together. Antonia is a pink and Geo is a blue. Here’s a full look of what came:

What you see there is the entire mystery box, plus the mystery add on and the Hand Model add on. ¬†And here’s a closer look at all the stuff I got:

The Hand Model kit comes with the Glycolic hand scrub, the Rock Star hand creme (which smells amazing!) and the oxygenating nail treatment. The nail treatment promises to strengthen weak, thin nails while allowing the nail to breathe. Now, y’all know I love my Millionails…so I’ll try it and report back. Next up is the Double Step, an anti friction stick for the feet. I use it for chub rub during the summer (it came in a previous box), so I am super excited to have another stick! Double Step is sitting on top of the Moisture Mask Trio, three masks for the nails, hands, and feet. I also got a small pink muslin bag, the Pink Grapefruit Body Frosting (not too sweet, not too tart), and an eyelash curler.

But y’all came here for the polish, right? Let’s get to it!

I got 9 colors in this box. With the mystery box, you only know of the main event colors (example: every box this month has Geo and Antonia in there), but everything else is a surprise! From left to right: Candace, Karen, Eva, Lois, Lucy, Karmen, and Adele. Three of these were repeats for me, so my bestie got a lovely treat!

All in all, this was a great value for $45. Yes, seriously! And shipping was free! You know I’m working on a look that will incorporate my new swag!

Nail post coming soon. Until then, stay beautiful!

Quick Hit: New Lipstick!

Hi Lovelies!

I am typing this while sipping on my coffee, trying to figure out my makeup for the day.

And then I remembered: I have new lipstick!

I tend to not fool with lipstick so much, as I love to change lip color often. I tend to stay with gloss because that’s easier to switch out during the day.

And then, I met this:

That there is the new Cargo Essential Lip Color in Bordeaux and it is fabulous! High pigment, creamy feeling and moisturizing (I have the flakiest lips ever so this is a huge plus), and it lasts for hours.

Ok. I have to be out the door to work in about 10 minutes, so let me finish my coffee (and makeup) and get moving. Until next time, stay beautiful!

Disclaimer: the company I work for sells this item. However, I was not compensated for this review nor did I receive the product for free. It’s just that fabulous!¬†

Nail Adventures: Darker Colors of the Season

Hi Lovelies!

Amid my funk one particular weekend, I ended up buying some new polishes. Being a rebel, I decided that I would pick some colors I would never normally wear. It’s a tactic I suggest to my clients at work who are looking for a change of pace, so I figured I would apply it to myself.

I am no stranger to black nail polish, but I rarely wear it by itself. More often, it is worn as a complimentary color. For example:

These are the nails I did for day two of Comic Con, inspired by Harley Quinn. It’s how I prefer to wear my black. I did do black and purple for the first day, but it only stayed till I got home and redid them. So, in my Julep Maven box for this month, I got these two colors:

On the left is Aisha and on the right is Alexandra. I can’t even explain how far out of my comfort zone these colors are. I prefer wild, bright colors, and my neutrals tend towards red or pink. These colors? I don’t know. But I kept the box and tried Aisha first. I paired it with these two colors:

Left side is Orly’s Luxe and the right side is OPI’s Wonderous Star (Mariah Carey collection). The glitter is gold and black, by the way, although in certain light it does look silver. The finished look?

It grew on me. The berry color is really pretty, and I’ve gotten quite a few compliments on it. ¬†Next look will be using the beige. Not sure how I’ll swing it, but I’m up for the challenge!

Until next time, stay beautiful!
