Ugh. Sick.

Hi lovelies.

So I’m typing this from a sofa that is littered with tissues and discarded medicine packs.

I do hate being sick, particularly when I have a million things to do, and this was my only day off to get them all done.

And on a completely superficial note, I wanted to do my nails today and just don’t have the energy to put any heart into them. The nail polish posts will be postponed to next week for Comic Con. And I am going to Comic Con, come hell or high water. I’ll be doing X-Men themed nails and makeup next week, so if you aren’t following me on Instagram, do it! They’ll get a sneak peek of the looks before I post them here.

Ok, I’m off to get some soup, more medicine, and sleep. Until next week, stay healthy and beautiful!

Quick Hit: New Shoes!

Hi lovelies! I decided to do some housework today, so the manicure will have to wait. I nearly forgot I have class tonight! In the meantime, I did go shoe shopping, and picked up a pair that I said I wanted in my last post:

The blue isn’t as bright as it is in the picture online, but that’s ok, as I will be able to coordinate it with more outfits that way. Ok, off to get ready for class. New manicure post should be up by Wednesday. Until then, stay beautiful!

OMG Shoes!

Fall is upon us, and now is a good excuse for me to fill my newly cleaned out closet with brand new shoes.

Quite frankly, I have no idea why I bother to clean it out if only to refill it, but hey. We all have our vices.

This season, I am all over oxfords. I love them so, so much. I spent about an hour today pinning some new shoes on Pinterest, and I thought I’d share a few pairs I’m lusting for with you.

This first pair is from JustFab. A quick review: I am a big fan of JustFab, because if the shoe doesn’t work, you can return it for free and get a different size. As I have a shoe size that almost no retailer seems to carry (what? do folks with size 10 1/2 feet not exist?!) being able to try things on and return them is key. And this peep toe oxford gives me life, y’all! It’s on my wishlist.

This pair is from Steve Madden. So, if you’ve noticed the nail designs I do, then you’ll be able to guess I love sparkly things. I have been looking for an excuse to buy these, and well, I decided that I didn’t need one. Sparkly things make me happy, and I should buy things that make me happy every now and again. And!! They’re on sale for $48.98, which gives me even more reason to pick them up.

Another pair from JustFab. Despite the fact I tend to be stretched quite thin with extra time, I really want these shoes so I’ll have an excuse to go out and show off. Also, the majority of my shoe collection is black (it’s all I am allowed to wear for work), so I love having an excuse to put on a color and show off!

And finally, there’s this oxford from Payless I have my eye on. I read the reviews, and you know? I’m a little worried, but I figure I’ll go by the store and take a look at them. The blue (favorite color!) makes me happy, and I’d love to pair them with some ankle pants and argyle socks. Should I pick them up, I’ll put a picture of them up on my Instagram (go follow me!)

And that’s it! I am attempting ombre nails for the first time this weekend, and I’ll have the results Monday. Until then, stay beautiful!

Rhapsody in Blue

Greetings, my lovelies! So, yesterday I showed you one of my quick manis–the Sally Hansen nail strips in Vine and Dine. But then I thought…how can I make this better? Something out of the box (at least, for me?)

The answer? More nail polish!

First, I started out with a coat of Frenzy by Orly on my pointer and ring fingers, and it was pretty.

But then I thought, more! I want more! Blue is my favorite color, and if I am going to do a predominately blue manicure, I need to go all in. So I added some stripes of Solitaire by OPI, and a few pearls. What I finished with surprised me:

This is a look that makes me extremely happy (oh, goodness! So happy!) Now, I’m petrified I’m going to knock off one of the pearls on my pointer finger (retail wreaks havoc on hands), so I figure I should enjoy it while I can. The time it took wasn’t nearly as long as my freehand design, thanks to the strips. It’s definitely something I could do again, maybe with a darker color. Next nail look will definitely be fall inspired, and look for some Comic-Con themed nails in the upcoming weeks (yep, I live up to my pseudonym.)

Next post (should be around Friday), I am exploring fall shoes. I love shoes just as much as I do nails, so be ready!

That’s all from here tonight. Until next time, stay beautiful!

Vacation Nails

I’m not even sure why I’m calling these vacation nails because 1) vacation is almost over for me and 2) I just did them at around midnight 9/21, but hey. We’ll go with it.

So, more and more I have been wanting to learn how to do my own nail art because it’s really beautiful, but really expensive to get done at the nail salon. And while I am a lazy girl who would rather have someone else do it for me, my budget conscious side is telling me to do it myself. So, when I finally caught cabin fever Friday, I went out to Ulta to get some goodies for my nails.

Now, I have like 500 bottles of nail polish (no exaggeration), so I wanted some tools to work with. I ended up getting this 5 tool set from Red Carpet Manicure:

It’s a pretty basic set that includes a clean up brush, two sided dotting tool, striping brush, detail brush, and application brush. The application brush has a boxed end so that you can get a straight line for French manicures. I couldn’t decide what colors or design I wanted, and ended up making a big mess before it ended:

Ultimately, I ended up with these colors:

The base color was Evie from Julep, the stripes were Louvre Me, Louvre Me Not from OPI, and the dots were Revlon’s Black Lingerie. I use Essie’s Millionails as a base and Sally Hansen InstaDri for my topcoat. After about an hour and a half, here’s the end result:

I should have gone with a darker purple, but I like it! The brushes were easy to control ( I’m ambidextrous, but I favor my right hand), but I know I could use some more practice. I got compliments on them though, so I am well on my way! As much time as it took, I don’t know if it’s an every polish change look for me (I work retail and have to redo my nails about 3-4 times a week), but is great when I have time on an off day.

I shall savor the last bit of my vacation now. Until next time, stay beautiful!
