Fatshion Friday: Finishing Touches

Before we get into the meat and potatoes of this post, I’d like to wish all of you that celebrate a Merry Christmas. I hope that you’re spending it with people you love and that you’re in a loving environment.

For those of you that don’t do holidays: I hope that you’re able to spend the day doing things you love with people you love (or if you prefer solitude, that you’re able to indulge in some self-care), and that you’re someplace warm and safe.

And finally: to my sisters and brothers in retail: solidarity to those of you that are working today and I hope all of your customers are pleasant and that your workday goes quickly. ๐Ÿ™‚

I’ve gone over some clothing ideas and some shoe suggestions for New Year’s, and now I’m going to share my picks for the finishing touches. This is always my favorite part, because I definitely believe that more is more.

I know. Coco Chanel said to take one thing off before you leave the house, and I’m liable to put two more things on. I say if you love it, rock with it. Confidence has a way of making all types of fashion decisions look sexy.

On to the good stuff!

Shells and shine! From Rachel Stewart Jewelry.

I love a statement earring! I’ve discussed that I don’t really do well in unfamiliar situations with a lot of people, and that goes for going to clubs. My introvert self has a hard time sparking conversation, but I find that I’ll eagerly discuss what you’re wearing or what I’m wearing…hence these lovely earrings! They give interest to whatever you’re wearing and have people ask you where you got them from. And just like that…you’ve made a friend. A lot of her pieces tend to run on the larger side (which I love.) Some of her pieces I’m wearing below to get an idea of some of the sizing.

I’m such a fan of her work!

Let me draw your eye downwards…From Lost Queens.

Necklaces are something I’m getting back into. I have eczema, and sometimes having things on my neck (including clothing, which is why I rarely wear button down shirts) irritates me. But I love the drama of this necklace! If you have on a low cut top and a good bra, this just helps to accent all of that lovely cleavage. I am always here for that!

Arm candy in my fave shade of blue. From Lost Queens.

Bracelets! I love bangles because they jingle. I’m a fan of anything that glitters and makes noise when I move. I figure that’s a more subtle way to draw a little attention, especially when they’re mixed in with a bright color. Blue is bright and soothing, and I adore this set of bangles. Either wear them all on one arm or split them between both (which is how I’d style them.)

1-Fullscreen capture 12182015 51057 PM

Sexy fringe. From JustFab.

Fringe has been everywhere this season, from shoes to belts. Honestly, the quickest way to up your outfit’s chic quotient would be to add a touch of fringe, and this little clutch fits the bill. Bonus: black and white goes with just about everything so it’s a piece you’ll be able to use again and again!

Wearable pop art! From Love Cortnie.

I am such a comic geek! The moment I saw this I was ready to change my outfit so I could buy this! Sadly, this doesn’t go with a blessed thing in my wardrobe (as much as I love yellow, I don’t look good in it), but I love the wow factor! This is another ice breaker piece–you’re sure to be asked where you got this from as you’re working the room in your fabulous outfit.

Next week: let’s talk makeup looks and fabulous products! Have a wonderful weekend!

Fatshion Friday: What Are You Doing New Year’s Eve?

I certainly hope you’ll be getting all dolled up and going out for the night! I know I am.

January 1, 2015 I was happily dancing away in a club with my friends, and I’m looking to do that all over again. Now, I told y’all about all my mishaps getting my outfit. This year, I’ve planned way better…I have my outfit already! At least, I have the basics already: I’m doing a romper, tights, and red heels. All I need now are accessories, and next Friday I’ll have a post at the ready with some great ideas for finishing off your look.

But, you need to have the look first, right? Let me show you some of my ideas for an awesome night out at any budget!

1-Fullscreen capture 1242015 55108 PM

From Ashley Stewart.

I have come a long way from that girl who refused to do a romper or a jumpsuit. I didn’t think they worked for my body type because I carry most of my weight in my belly. Key here is fit. Take the time to try it out if you can, or make sure that there’s some stretch in it if you have to get it online. This look appeals to my practical side (what if I want to twerk a little? Now I’m not gonna be overexposed!) and to my sexy side (love the cut and sparkle). Because I like to define my waist, I’d do a belt with it, but do whatever makes you the most comfortable and makes you feel the most gorgeous.

1-Fullscreen capture 1242015 54346 PM

From ASOS.

If I had to choose between a romper or a jumpsuit, I’d likely pick the romper because I love my legs. They’re so shapely! ๐Ÿ˜€

Had to have a self-love moment. Sorry, not sorry. ๐Ÿ™‚

I love this because of the embroidery. Because it’s mixed metallics, you could do gold or silver (or both!) jewels with this and a bold shoe. I mean, what better time to sparkle than New Year’s, right?

1-Fullscreen capture 1242015 54004 PM

From Monif C.

Ok, so maybe the soiree you’re attending doesn’t call for glitz and glam. Or, maybe you’re just not that into sparkle. I love this piece because it can be glammed up or left as is for a subtle elegance that looks good no matter the venue. A statement necklace and a nice heel is all you need to make this complete.

1-Fullscreen capture 1242015 53756 PM

From Monif C.

Does your night out call for all over sparkle? (Yep, I work in extremes, folks! :D) This dress is perfect. Beautiful cut and enough glittery happiness that calls for minimal extras outside of a nice heel and clutch. I’m all about easy!

1-Fullscreen capture 1242015 53626 PM

From Jibri.

In need of something dramatic? Bring it on with this number. I don’t normally go for sheer paneling, but I have to say I love how it just gives a little extra coverage without being too heavy. I’d do a metallic shoe and bangles with this because I believe more is more, but styling as seen in the pic is perfect for just enough drama for the evening.

1-Fullscreen capture 1242015 53543 PM

From Eloquii.

Oh, this dress. Story time!

I had every intention of purchasing this dress for New Year’s, right? I’d planned out the accessories (I was gonna add a bow tie and do red shoes) and everything, and put it in my cart. Y’all. By the time I’d gotten a chance to sign in and place the order, it was all sold out. I stalked the site for a few days, but usually when an item is gone from Eloquii, it’s gone. I sniffled a bit and found something else I liked, and ordered it.

And then…it came back in stock. During a non-pay week, and I’m flying out of town soon.

Sigh.

Oh, well. There’s no reason y’all can’t reap the benefits of the restock! You could style it as I described above, dress it down with a jeweled oxford, throw on some tights and a brightly colored pump, whatever! I love this dress just for its versatility.

And there you have it! My picks for a beautiful and stylish New Year. Next week, I’m going to talk about shoes and accessories for the big night. Happy Weekend!

New York Fashion Week Plus Recap

Hey y’all!

So, before my internet went all over the place, I had a chance to see some presentations during New York Fashion Week (NYFW).

No, notย thoseย shows (although I’m working on it!) This was a different set of presentations, for plus size fashion. Hence the fancy name: NYFW+.

You already know how here I was for it! ๐Ÿ˜€

So, the shows I went to were different. It wasn’t like your standard runway show. The models walked out, of course, but instead of a strut, they stood and posed. Admittedly, I was a little confused, but it was also pretty cool, because as you went to take pictures, the models would give you your own pose.

So fancy. ๐Ÿ™‚

I know y’all came for the fashion. Let’s get to it!

First up: Eula Taylor of Twelve26.

The accessories she used were fabulous as well. All are by iLLASPARKZ:

I even loved the designer’s personal style (that’s her on the left.) Those are sequined harem pants!

And finally: Marco Hall. His collection was my favorite of the night!

Full Figured Fashion Week: Indie Fashion Show

So, last week was Full Figured Fashion Week (FFF Week hereafter), and while I didn’t get a chance to participate as fully as I did last year because of work, I still got a chance to enjoy one of my favorite parts of the week: the Indie Fashion Show.

Not familiar with what an Indie Fashion Show is? Think like the brands that you never hear about. Brands I knew I wasn’t even familiar with until I attended my first FFF Week. Brands that aren’t featured on ASOS or Ashley Stewart or Lane Bryant, but are just as avant garde and stylish. Beautifully unique, like we are as curvy women.

Gotta love that.

And trust me, the fashion did not disappoint. Let’s get to it, shall we?

Sparkly Treats

In less than a week, I will be 30.

30.

Whoa.

I love to splurge on myself, but such a special day deserves an extra special treat. I couldn’t figure out what I’d gift myself that would be extravagant. Do I get my first pair of designer shoes? A fancy bag?

And then the lovely folks at Anjolee.com contacted me to see if I’d be interested in learning about their jewelry and designing my own piece.

Ding, ding!

So, over at Anjolee, you can custom design anything they have to your heart’s desire. Lovely ring, but you want a topaz and not a sapphire? Done! You need that necklace to be platinum instead of white gold? No problem! Love the look of that diamond tennis bracelet, but you need another inch or two? Piece of cake!

Speaking of which, I totally decided to get myself a bracelet. I can also tell you it was a hard decision, what with all of the possibilities! I picked out something with blue topaz, because blue is my favorite color. Look at the packaging:

1-DSC_0012

And how lovely my piece is:

1-IMG_0455

1-IMG_0456

1-IMG_0458-001

1-IMG_0457

And the cool part about it is that since you can customize everything down to the length, if you happen to have bigger arms like me, you can add inches on if you needed. Standard length is 7 inches, and I added an inch for a perfect fit (you can even do half inches if you need to.) I used a measuring tape (dressmaker’s, not the retractable) to measure what I would need.

I am so happy with the results, and the quality is superb.

If you’re looking for a gift for a loved one or a gift for yourself (I’m all for personal treats), give Anjolee a try. You won’t regret it!

Nerdy Girl Adventures: Cosplay at New York Comic Con

I took pictures of damn near any/everything that moved at NYCC (with permission, of course.) And let me tell you, it took everything in me to cut down the pics I put in this post because it was well over 150 photos.

I’ll do my best to provide context and names of the characters listed. Ready? Let’s go!

1-DSC_0001

A beautiful Harley Quinn.

1-DSC_0020

I love the vibe this whole group gave off. My favorite would be the side-burned Joker there. Other characters include Batgirl, Green Lantern, Wonder Woman, Harley Quinn, Riddler, and Aquaman.

1-DSC_0022

Rita Replulsa and Lord Zedd. Brought me right back to elementary school, coming home to watch Power Rangers!

1-DSC_0061

Scarecrow, Batman (who is 75 years young this year–the character, that is) and Robin. Robin was quite the handsome guy in person, let me say. ๐Ÿ™‚

1-DSC_0087

Sailor Moon and the Crew (totally NOT what they’re called, btw. ๐Ÿ˜€ ) There were quite a few Sailor themed cosplays, including a group of guys. The guys had a Tuxedo Mask included in their group (and yes, it was a woman.) So cute!

1-DSC_0089

A very dapper Penguin.

1-DSC_0056

Marvin the Martian brings you peace, man.

1-DSC_0077

So, the Captain America at the top of the pyramid is holding what looks like a classic Super Nintendo game. In fact, it’s a flask. How fancy is that?

1-DSC_0085

I was on my way to pick up my things from coat check, and saw these two on the way there. How spectacular is this Jareth ย and Sarah cosplay?

1-DSC_0054

I actually interrupted the conversation I was having when I saw this crew come in. “OMG, is that Lego Iron Man?! I need a picture!” *zoom* Don’t worry, the person I was talking to was as excited as I was!

1-DSC_0045

Predator!

1-DSC_0066

This is Phoenix Wright. He’s a lawyer whose fighting tactics include throwing paper work and gavels (seriously!) I should note the cosplayer shouted “Objection!” as he posed, which made C and I crack up.

Oh, and the word “Objection!” will come up in the video game when he does that move. Here’s a video that shows it (you want to look about 58 seconds in):

Memes also made their way into NYCC. Here are my two favorites (with memes right next to them):

1-DSC_00041-Fullscreen capture 10142014 122844 AM

When I first took a pic of this guy, he ended up having to answer the phone in the middle of my shot. ย When he hung up his call, he graciously posed with the sign for me. I say he did a pretty good job!

1-DSC_00411-Fullscreen capture 10142014 122601 AM

C and I saw this guy and immediately cracked up! Annoyed Picard is one of my favorite memes.

And finally, here’s the shot that C says perfectly captures the spirit of NYCC:

1-DSC_0048

I actually got to NYCC earlier than C and my nephew on Sunday, so I decided to meet up with a friend of mine I hadn’t seen since college. As he and I tried to figure out where the other was, Doc Oct there came walking past me. As I stopped him to snap a photo, I notice he’s looking behind me. Confused, I turn around. Who do I see?

Spider Man.

Doc: “Spider Man! I thought I killed you!”

Spidey: “Doc, you can NEVER kill me!”

And they jumped into the pose you see here.

Me: “OMG I NEED A PICTURE OF THIS!!”

And here it is. Two complete strangers hamming it up for people’s cameras and entertainment. They shook hands as they parted ways.

Man, NYCC is like nothing else. If you ever have a chance to come and experience it yourself, please do! You won’t regret it.

Tomorrow: the unveiling of my cosplay. See you then!

Plus Night Out–The Recap

Positive energy makes me as happy as shopping does. When I can get both combined into one event? Score!

And I didn’t want to enjoy it all by myself (who would?) So, I called up my hard working, dissertation writing friend and got her out of the house for a day of shopping and her first NYC fashion show.

Let me just say—Plus Night Out was AWESOME! We had delicious sangria, tasty snacks, and even bitty banana pudding cupcakes.

Amazing.

The fashion didn’t disappoint, either.

I love that this season isn’t filled with only muted neutrals. There’s nothing wrong with muted neutrals, of course. But since I wear the favored neutral all the time (black), I am always looking for more color in my life.

Speaking of color, here I am before the show:

wpid-20140906_181155.jpg

I have on a super colorful dress from ASOS Curve. I love a good swing dress because they are so comfortable and breathable!

Ready? Let’s go!

I wanted EVERYTHING in this line! OMG, y’all. The cream with the yellow plaid? I do not care if it’s after Labor Day, I will wear that to the grocery store!

It was a wonderful night, and we had an amazing time. Definitely looking forward to next year’s show!
