Fatshion Friday: Vacation Prep (And Bonus Story Time!)

I go on vacation in two weeks, and I am so excited! So excited that I am already piecing together outfits.

I’m not even going to be gone for long, but since I’m going somewhere warm (Myrtle Beach) I’m trying to fit in all of the skin baring outfits I can on this trip.

At least, until NYC can make up it’s mind to be one temperature.

Sigh.

Anyway.

I plan for this trip to be full of maxi dresses, sandals, and maybe only one or two new pieces (if I keep telling myself this, maybe I’ll stick to it!)

(No I won’t.)

Like, Eloquii dropped these shorts and I want them with this top:

1-Fullscreen capture 3182015 120528 PM1-Fullscreen capture 3182015 115248 AM

And I want to wear this dress from ASOS with some cute sneakers and a denim jacket:

1-Fullscreen capture 3182015 122924 PM

And since I’ll be at the beach, I already scooped this beautiful bikini from GabiFresh’s Swimsuits For All collection:

1-Fullscreen capture 3182015 124604 PM

Bonus for this: you can get two different sizes for top and bottom. So if you’re more bottom heavy (that’s me), you can go up a size there and get a different sized top. It’s super comfy, by the way. This will be the first time I’ve ever done a bikini, so I’m petrified. But I’m gonna rock it anyway!

And since I’m doing a bathing suit, I’ll be making an appointment for a bikini wax soon. I wonder how it will go this time…every time I go it’s a new experience.

Story Time!

So, the first time I went to get a wax, it was included as part of a massage package at a spa. What I should have done was get the massage AFTER the wax, but I had no idea what I was in for.

Once the massage therapist worked all the kinks out of my shoulders and back, I went to get my wax. The room was clean and smelled like lavender. Kind of like a friendlier OB/GYN office.

Here’s the thing: if you’re gonna get a wax, please be uninhibited. Because your waxer is going to get to know you really well. There’s no modesty; you’re about to spread for them. Now, not for nothing, my waxer was super sweet, and she never made me feel uncomfortable.

Until the actual waxing part. Listen. I’m not about to sugar coat this for y’all. This shit hurts. I don’t care the menu tells you about “no pain wax” they’re lying to you. There are waxes that don’t hurt as much (go for the chocolate wax for this), but you’re gonna feel it. What you want to do is actually speak to your waxer. They’re going to make convo, and it isn’t for the purposes of being polite (well, not the sole reason.) They’re distracting you. So speak. Cause once that first strip came off I think I cursed the earth for being round and the sky for being blue my nethers hurt so much.

Oh, and they’re gonna show you the hair they yanked off you. In case you were wondering.

So, she’s waxing and talking to me, telling me I had more hair in certain places than others, and then the line of the century came out her mouth.

“Ok, I need for you to put your leg on the wall.”

Put my leg on the wall?!

Fullscreen capture 1152015 42119 PM.bmp

I had contacts on in this scenario, though.

Please keep in mind this was my FIRST wax, and I wasn’t thinking that with my belly she may need some help getting to places. All I could think was the only time I hear that line it ain’t because I’m getting waxed. Then I think, well shit. Can I get a drink and some dinner first? We’re moving too fast!

But I complied, and I was nice and smooth after. Oddly enough, I end up having to contort in some shape or form every time I get a wax, too. By the way, they rub you with soothing oil after so you don’t feel so raw.

Hope you got a good laugh from today’s story! Happy weekend, y’all! ๐Ÿ˜€

Stepping Out In Style

Ok, so you got all of your fancy underthings, right? Let’s talk about finding some pretty things to wear over them, shall we?

Now, if your Valentine’s Day has you doing, ahem, indoor activities, this post may not be for you. But for those of you looking to do brunch or dinner, keep reading for some pretty ideas!

Let’s get to it!

Are you going someplace fancy? I have the perfect dresses for you, and neither one of them are red! I know, red is traditional for VDay, but why not step out the box with another color? Like navy:

1-Fullscreen capture 272015 43312 PM2-Fullscreen capture 272015 43320 PM

From ASOS.

I can’t lie: I love this dress for it’s complex simplicity. There’s all these pretty sparkly stones on there, so you don’t need a necklace. If you do earrings, you can either pick a simple silver or gold hoop or get studs to match the stones on the dress. Add a cute shoe and you’re done! Fancy dressing doesn’t get easier than this.

For the more daring:

From Monif C.

There is something about the swirl of colors in this dress that just makes me happy. With all of the cold, snowy weather we’ve had in these parts (with more to come,) I’m in the need of something that reminds me of springtime. This does it, and your curves are flawless. Win!

Maybe you’re doing brunch with friends, with your love, or by yourself. What’s the easiest thing in the world to dress up or down? Jeans! I’m a huge fan of these:

4-Fullscreen capture 272015 44709 PM

From Old Navy.

A word on fit: get your size. I tend to size up to make sure my bum fits, and didn’t need to here. I need a belt to keep them in place (I prefer a looser feel), but if you want it properly form fitting: get your size. They’re super comfy, too.

So: basic jean. Check. Now, you need a top. Well, depending on how dressy you want to be, you’ve got options!

Dressy date? Try this:

6-Fullscreen capture 272015 45524 PM7-Fullscreen capture 272015 45530 PM

From Ashley Stewart.

I love this because flowy, but see how the accessories take it over the top? A cute bootie would pull this whole look right together.

Friend date? How about this top:

8-Fullscreen capture 272015 45944 PM

From Lane Bryant.

This is an adorable, going out to the movies then dinner with the crew sweatshirt. Just fancy enough to go out in, but not too overdone.

Solo date? I adore this one:

5-Fullscreen capture 272015 45243 PM

From Feminine Funk.

You can take yourself out to brunch and museum hop in this (maybe you’ll strike up a convo with someone with that phrase on there!) Or, you could sit on your sofa and enjoy your Netflix queue (and I’d ditch the jeans in favor of underpants in that case, but that’s just me.) Nothing like something comfy and cheeky in your rotation!

Hope you were able to get some cute outfit ideas from this! Also, keep in mind there’s nothing wrong with taking yourself out on a date in a fancy dress and heels. You have great style, show it off!

Pretty Flirty Sexy Things

One of my favorite things in the world is to shop for new underthings and lingerie. I love the feel and the sexiness.

Aww, yeah. ๐Ÿ˜€

I really never need a reason to pick up something new, but I love it when Valentine’s rolls around because there is just so much extraย to find.

Now, it’s way too cold in my neck of the woods for most of what I’m about to show you, but that won’t stop me from ordering at least a couple of things, nor should it stop you!

Let’s get to it!

1-Fullscreen capture 272015 40459 PM1-Fullscreen capture 272015 40935 PM

Both pieces are from Hips and Curves.

A shirt+panty combo is one of the most classic pairings in nighttime wear. It doesn’t take much to up that sexiness quotient by having the panties lacy and the shirt a button down. You can throw in a pretty bra like in the picture, or go without to up the allure.

2-Fullscreen capture 272015 41842 PM

Set is from Lane Bryant (have to purchase separately.)

I am a sucker for a bra+panty combo, especially when it coordinates like this. If you happen to be into doing cute dress up moments for your significant other, toss this on with a pair of black pumps and shake it all over the room (and them!) Solo? I’d be grabbing my Nikon and tripod and having a photo shoot. Yes, seriously. I love how I look in underwear.

3-Fullscreen capture 272015 42109 PM4-Fullscreen capture 272015 42118 PM

From Torrid. It’s selling out fast!

Robes may be my second favorite thing in the world. I’d pair this one with the Lane Bryant set above and sit on my sofa and drink coffee. Great way to make yourself feel extra fancy in the morning and extra sexy at night.

5-Fullscreen capture 272015 42257 PM6-Fullscreen capture 272015 42311 PM

From Torrid. Also selling fast!

So, most people look at this and think special occasion. I look at this and think tonight’s pajamas. Now, true confession: most of the time I don’t sleep in anything because I’m always hot. But it’s pretty cold up here in NY, so as to not turn into a Popsicle, I have to put onย something, right? This works. Oh, and how cute is the flower lace detail?

7-Fullscreen capture 272015 42817 PM

From Hips and Curves. So seductive!

I saved my favorite look for last. Satin shorts, corset, lacy bra, thigh highs? Now, I’d do this outfit for a partner, or if I were going to a pajama party (layered with the robe I mentioned earlier.) Lingerie isn’t normally meant to be shown off, but I’d be wanting to show this to any and everybody, it’s so fierce! This also warrants solo Nikon photo shoots. Cause, I mean, look at it.

And there you have it! Some of my favorite flirty things for Valentine’s Day and beyond. Keep in mind it’s never a bad idea to treat yourself to something beautiful; you deserve to look and feel wonderful every day!

Fatshion Friday: New Year, New Perspective

Hello my lovelies! I hope y’all had a safe and happy new year. ๐Ÿ™‚

Wednesday, I told y’all about my outfit I’d originally planned for New Year’s Eve.

Sadly, I still haven’t got it (no one was able to sign for it, so it’ll be delivered today, hopefully) but I’d gotten a surprise shipment from Eloquii on Tuesday.

I’d only ordered it the previous Friday, and didn’t think I’d get it in time. I was so happy I did, because I’d managed to ransack my room trying to figure out what to put on and still wasn’t 100% happy with what I’d put together.

But before I get into my fabulous outfit, I want to have a moment to discuss my history with New Years.

I don’t really have one. This was the first year since I moved to the Big Apple that I’d actually gone out to celebrate. Logistics of trying to navigate NYC on NYE aside (OMG Y’ALL. SUCH A PAIN) there’s always something to get into, and I’d never taken the time to experience it.

Most of it had to do with me being socially awkward and introverted. I’ve made some strides over the last year to get out and do things, even if it’s by myself. That hasn’t always been me though. I actually found the club my friends and I attended and coordinated getting folks to come out. Also not something I normally do.

But it was so worth it.

NYE is fraught with anxiety for most people, particularly if you’re single. It’s seen as a night to maybe make a new friend and get a kiss at midnight. I’ve still not had that first year’s kiss experience, but my NYE wasn’t lacking at all. That wasn’t what I was aiming for. I wanted to celebrate surrounded by my friends, and ring in the new year with some of my favorite people in the world.

I got to do that. And for that, I am happy and grateful. ๐Ÿ˜€

I also looked fabulous.

1-20150101_001142-001

Please don’t mind the blurry club pics. This was a pause in the middle of a happy dance!

1-20150101_001158

And here’s me and my friend C, all dolled up for the night.

Now, let’s talk outfit details. Yep. That’s my belly. All of it. Stretch marks and all.

And I was so surprised at how many compliments I received. Even though I love to push my personal comfort boundaries, I still get anxiety about wearing clothes that society says fat girls aren’t supposed to wear. Crop top? What? Are people gonna laugh at me?

Maybe they did. I couldn’t hear them over how others told me they loved what I had on. So, this is the African Violet set from Eloquii, and I layered it with their white Longline Vest ย because a) cold, and b) pockets (the skirt has pockets too). I wore a simple pair of sparkly flats (that cut my toe ๐Ÿ˜ฆ ) but were relatively comfortable, and I danced the night away with my friends.

Then we had breakfast, and we all went home with smiles on our faces.

If NYE was an indicator of how my 2015 is going to go, then I’m here for all of it. Here’s to new experiences and fabulous fashion in the new year!

A Tale Of Three Dresses

It’s New Year’s Eve! Tonight, I’m going out with my friends to celebrate in a gorgeous outfit it took me some time to find.

Story time!

I really had not planned on buying something new for New Year’s, because until maybe two weeks ago I had no definitive plans. My best friend suggested a club, and I found a really good deal on tickets for us to go and celebrate.

$40 for open bar til 1, free snacks, champagne toast, AND ย free breakfast? Win!

So last week, I decided to order a new dress for the new year. I figured I’d just pay for the rush shipping so it would be here in time. And then I had a problem. Which dress?

Here were the top three:

4-Fullscreen capture 12132014 93811 PM

From Eloquii.

You’ll remember this dress from my Holiday Look Book. So pretty, and simple.

1-Fullscreen capture 12312014 85815 AM

From ASOS.

Now, I have to wear black every day at work, so I don’t like to wear it when I go out. But I love the length of this dress because I love my legs. ๐Ÿ™‚

1-Fullscreen capture 12312014 84912 AM

From ASOS.

This was the final contender, and I love it because it had elements from the previous two: sparkle and short. And I don’t own any white dresses, so of course, this look won! Look at the detail around the collar:

1-Fullscreen capture 12312014 84825 AM

I like this because now I don’t need a necklace and I can add all of the bangles and rings I want to dress it up.

So, after all of that, I finally order, pay for the rush shipping, and pray it makes it here on time. When I get my order confirmation, I hit the tracking button.

It’s going to make it here today. Problem is, I’m working late shift and won’t be here to get it. And I won’t have time to come home and change, so I’m changing at work.

*sad trombone*

Now I need a plan B. But I always have a plan B, and I’m gonna look great tonight despite not having my original dress I ordered.

You’ll see that look Friday! ๐Ÿ™‚

Have a safe and happy New Year!

Uptown Fashion Week: The Recap!

So, last Thursday, I had the opportunity to attend one of 4 fashion shows hosted at Uptown Fashion Week. There was a plus size show I ended up missing because it was too far away ( ๐Ÿ˜ฆ ) but I did get to see the huge 11 designer extravaganza. Super cool and excited.

One of the best parts was that all of the designers were Latino. I love the idea of inclusivity in fashion, and that extends to both the models (which were diverse) and the designers.

If I had to have a quibble with this show (and I might add, this is the first time I’ve had to attend UFW) is that if it’s going to be that many designers, it should a) start on time and b) have snacks.

Just some constructive criticism. ๐Ÿ™‚

The showings from each designer were beautiful. Without further ado: Enjoy the fashion!

A note here about the next pic and video: the designer sent out the models like this:

And then, this happened:

Super cool, right? Totally unexpected, and the clothes were gorgeous. Also, here’s the final collection that had that awesome intro I showed you yesterday:

Beautiful!

Outside of the minor quibbles, it was a lovely showing, and I had a great time!

Plus Night Out–The Recap

Positive energy makes me as happy as shopping does. When I can get both combined into one event? Score!

And I didn’t want to enjoy it all by myself (who would?) So, I called up my hard working, dissertation writing friend and got her out of the house for a day of shopping and her first NYC fashion show.

Let me just say—Plus Night Out was AWESOME! We had delicious sangria, tasty snacks, and even bitty banana pudding cupcakes.

Amazing.

The fashion didn’t disappoint, either.

I love that this season isn’t filled with only muted neutrals. There’s nothing wrong with muted neutrals, of course. But since I wear the favored neutral all the time (black), I am always looking for more color in my life.

Speaking of color, here I am before the show:

wpid-20140906_181155.jpg

I have on a super colorful dress from ASOS Curve. I love a good swing dress because they are so comfortable and breathable!

Ready? Let’s go!

I wanted EVERYTHING in this line! OMG, y’all. The cream with the yellow plaid? I do not care if it’s after Labor Day, I will wear that to the grocery store!

It was a wonderful night, and we had an amazing time. Definitely looking forward to next year’s show!
