Nail Adventures: Mentality Nail Polish It’s A Baby! Palette Review

When it comes to nail polish, I tend to be pretty mainstream. I usually stick with OPI, Essie, Orly, and the like. For some time, Julep nail polishes were as indie as I got.

Until now.

Mentality Nail Polish reached out to me and sent me their It’s A Baby! Palette for me to try out. Just looking at the bottles, I was skeptical, but then I did my swatches.

The finish is a jelly creme. Jelly polishes tend to be super sheer, with opacity nigh near impossible without some sort of opaque base coat. Creme polishes tend to be super opaque, usually with a shimmer or sheen to them, like pearl. Jelly creme polishes combine the best of both worlds. You can get a sheer wash of color with one coat, like the traditional jelly polish, or add an extra coat or two to get a more opaque look. All swatches shown are two coats of color and a high gloss top coat.

I didn’t find the formula streaky with two coats, but if you prefer a sheer look you may find a bit more streakiness if you only do one coat. The wear time, as long as you have a good topcoat, is pretty good. Even with me slinging boxes around, I didn’t find as many dings and chips.

Spectacular!

But you came here for the color, right? Let’s go!

This is Delivery, a deep blue.

This is Bearing, a gunmetal green.

This is Peek-A-Boo, a happy, bright pink.

And finally, my favorite, Hopscotch. This is a bright cerulean. Y’all know I dig bright colors. ๐Ÿ™‚

I actually decided, while I was swatching, to use Hopscotch for a remake of a previous nail look. I love that this polish layers well, without that gummy thickness that you can get with other polishes. Mentality does a stamping collection, and I can see how their formula lends well to doing excellent nail art with. Oh, and it’s five free as well. ๐Ÿ™‚ Here’s the nail remake:

The confetti on my ring finger is Maybelline’s Color Show in Nighttime Noise.

All in all, I am very impressed with the formula, colors, and price ($20 for all 4 colors!). Definitely looking forward to trying some other colors from them!

Nail Adventures: Nails of New York Comic Con

Hey folks!

So, I needed some time to recover from NYCC. I had SO much fun! There are like, a million pics I’m gonna share with y’all this week, but the organizer in me says I have to make it make some sense. So, since I normally do nail posts on Tuesdays, here’s a round up of all three looks I did.

Let’s get started!

Days One and Two: Gilded Fishnet

wpid-img_20141009_090628.jpg

Thursday I did a Catwoman themed outfit (tee, cat ears, leather skirt, leggings, and boots.) Friday it was Green Lantern (tee, leggings, denim shorts, sneakers). I thought the gold and black would be perfect to compliment those two themes. Random aside: if you have a good dollar store by you (Jack’s is the best here in NYC), you can find some good stuff. Those nail decals above? Sally Hansen, and I paid $1.99 instead of $11.99. Winning!

Day Three: Riddle Me This

wpid-20141010_225234.jpg

So, my showpiece costume on Saturday was the Riddler, and I thought it would be fun to play with texture. These nail stickers are from L’Oreal and they…were not the best. ๐Ÿ˜ฆ By the end of the day I was picking them off of my nails. But they looked great for a couple of hours. You’ll get shots of the costume later this week. Considering how close to the wire I cut it, it turned out pretty good!

Day Four: A Little Captain In Me

wpid-20141011_232758.jpg

The name to this manicure comes from my friend C, who asked that when she saw my fingers Sunday morning. ๐Ÿ˜€ Now, of course this is my favorite because blue, but it turned out better than I thought. The blue is Revlon’s Wild Card. After a day of work, I’ve knocked half of the rhinestones off. It was fabulous while it lasted!

Now, I’m off to edit some pics. Tomorrow’s post will be all about the makeup I sported. See you then!

Nail Adventures: Adorned

So my body still feels like a truck hit it (omg sore!)

After a hot shower and meal, I decided to take my mind off of it by doing my nails.

And then I fell asleep, hence yesterday’s post.

However, last week’s mani was starting to chip and look bad, so I made sure to get to it last night. I found me some good tv and got to work.

I love the idea of the negative space mani, so I decided to try a different shape of stripe. I went with a single chevron, and I took it to a deep, fall appropriate oxblood color.

I don’t normally do super dark, but I’m trying to expand my horizons.

Since the initial look felt too plain, I dressed it up with a bit of glittery polish and studs. The results?

ย wpid-20140930_222245.jpg

Yep, managed to get polish everywhere. I’m messy too, y’all. ๐Ÿ˜€ So, the oxblood is Julep’s Aisha, and the glittery bit is Julep’s Love (pictured). I actually wanted to get some pics of me with the mani and my rings, but it just looked too much for me. That’s ok, I have plenty of jewels on my fingertips. ๐Ÿ™‚

Next week is Comic Con. And I’m going all 4 days.

Are you ready for the nail art coming your way?

So, normally this is when you see my weekly manicure.

Well, I went back to yoga yesterday, and let me just say that my ass is sufficiently kicked.

I’ll finish up the post tonight so you’ll have it tomorrow. In the meantime, have a pic of what I used for my newest look:

Yep, the rings are important too. ๐Ÿ™‚

See you tomorrow!

Nail Adventures: Rawr

Looks like animal print will be all the rage for fall!

Cue a million pieces of zebra/leopard/giraffe/etc. printed EVERYTHING for me to wear.

That, for me, is quite scary.

Animal print is one of those things I love to see other people rock but on me…it just makes my brain short circuit. I always feel like it’s too much or that it’s overwhelming.

So, I break it down into something bite sized for me to handle. I have, for example, a flowy vest with leopard print on it, and giraffe printed sandals.

I stick with accessories. And what better to accessorize than my nails?

I found an adorable set of Sally Hansen nail stickers, and they were on sale. Naturally, that meant that I had to have them, because sale!

What? Don’t judge me! ๐Ÿ˜€

wpid-img_20140919_190340.jpg

How cute are those? I had to have them. The three longer packs will be a part of my Halloween set of manicures coming next month (get ready!), but the tiny one in the front? I had to jump on that one ASAP. I decided to use the stickers on 8 nails and do a freehand design on the ring fingers.

wpid-20140922_222632.jpg

wpid-20140922_222701.jpg

The name of print is called Fl-Roar-Al. Cute, right? Just enough animal print to make me comfortable. I did a couple of freehand flowers on the ring fingers, just to keep with the theme. Bonus: the decals have a blend of zebra and leopard. As I can use 1 decal for 2 nails, my right hand has majority leopard and my left hand (pictured) has majority zebra. So cool.

I love how this one came out!

Nail Adventures: Fall Simplicity

Fall is upon us here in NYC. The temps have dropped, but it’s still nice enough to only need a light sweater.

Oh, fall. This is the time of year I love, rivaled only by the time between winter and spring. You know, that time when it’s not too hot, not too cold?

Perfect.

And so, now is the perfect time to put away some of my brights, and start experimenting with some darker colors. I wanted something neutral (shocker, right? ๐Ÿ™‚ ) with just a touch of color. I wanted something classic, as I feel as though that’s where my style is taking me this season.

Don’t worry. I’ll have a post up on my fall picks soon enough. ๐Ÿ™‚ But first: let me show you my nail selfie:

wpid-20140916_002950.jpg

wpid-20140916_003026.jpg

I used Julep’s Lois (pale pink) with some loose glitter I had in my arsenal (I think it’s some old body glitter that I never actually used for a makeup look I wanted for Halloween) over Julep’s Mona (dark grey creme). I didn’t even use a striping brush (although you could for even more precision), I just turned the brush on its side and made a quick stripe, then laid a little glitter over the top for a subtle touch of sparkle.

Sometimes, all you need is simple.

Nail Adventures: Sweet and Sparkly

Hey loves!

So this blog is an offshoot of The Curvy Fashionista Photo Challenge I told y’all about last week. And today’s subject is Mani Monday!

Y’all know there was no way I’d miss this one, right? ๐Ÿ™‚

Yesterday, I had a day full of chores and then a fun night of dinner with my fellow blogger Shecoul and friends.

And of course my nails hadn’t been done since the gel nail failย of a week ago.

But what’s my normal go to? Sally Hansen Nail Decals! They’ve never let me down. I added Clio from Julep to give my characteristic sparkle, and came up with this:

wpid-20140803_143925.jpg

wpid-20140803_143902.jpg

Since I had to climb Mount Laundry yesterday, I needed something quick, and for me, nothing dries quicker than glitter polish. The downside is that it’s a booger to take off, but it’s a trade off I was willing to take. The decals are called Aflorable.

Coming up tomorrow: a premiere! (Barring any unforeseen circumstances, of course.)

See you then!
