Nail Adventures: Smooches

So, I have been such a social butterfly these last couple of weeks. I’ve actually been venturing out on my days off and meeting people and brunching and so on.

Who AM I?

πŸ˜€

Not for nothing, it’s been quite enjoyable. As an introvert who is quite socially awkward, some of the situations I put myself in have pushed me to come out of my shell a bit. I’ve noticed the more I do it, the easier it gets. I find that getting out is enjoyable, but I allow myself to duck out when being around too many people overwhelms me.

Sidebar: um, y’all? If you have introverted friends, do not tell them this is how they “fix it”. They aren’t broken. Just, FYI.

Anyway.

So, I went to brunch with my dissertation writing friend this past weekend, and I decided to do my nails in pink. Pink isn’t usually a focus color (I like it as an accent) but since I was wearing an all blue outfit I thought it would lend a nice contrast.

Grabbed me some of my trusty Sally Hansen Nail Polish strips, a bright pink, and glitter (because of course), and…

This might be the most frou frou manicure I’ve ever done. It may also be one of my favorites! Alright, the nail polish strips are called Giving Lip, and the pink is Essie’s Madison Ave-hue. The glitter overlay is Julep’s Hartleigh.

Definitely not something that I’d do when it isn’t say, Valentine’s Day or something (that’s the first time I wore this strip design), but I love it so. Pink, sparkly happy!

Dedicated to my little niece, who made her debut this past weekend. I’d done this mani before she got here, but how appropos is this pink? πŸ™‚

Nail Adventures: Kisses All Over

I feel like it’s been FOREVER since I did a Nail Adventure post! Woo!

\o/

By the time y’all get a look at this, I will be at work. And of course, for Valentine’s Day, I have to do something cute for the day (since I actually have the official day off!)

I need simple for this, because my schedule is on a level of ridiculously hectic. And there are some new Sally Hansen nail polish strips I needed to get.

Ok, I didn’tΒ needΒ them. But do you know how long it’s been since I’ve bought nail polish? A month, at least!

Withdrawal is real, y’all.

So, I found the absolute perfect set of polish strips, and got to it. Here’s the results:

wpid-20150212_153106.jpg

See what I mean? I HAD to have these! So, these polish strips are called Giving Lip, and my accent nail is OPI’s Big Apple Red. You could use just about any color as the accent nail, since the lipstick kisses are in pink, purple, and red. I found a purple and red glitter polish that would have gone perfectly, had I come across it first.

Did I mention this took me about 10 minutes to do? Cause it did. This is perfect for that last minute date/plans for drinks…

Gotta love quick beauty!

Nail Adventures: Sweet and Sparkly

Hey loves!

So this blog is an offshoot of The Curvy Fashionista Photo Challenge I told y’all about last week. And today’s subject is Mani Monday!

Y’all know there was no way I’d miss this one, right? πŸ™‚

Yesterday, I had a day full of chores and then a fun night of dinner with my fellow blogger Shecoul and friends.

And of course my nails hadn’t been done since the gel nail failΒ of a week ago.

But what’s my normal go to? Sally Hansen Nail Decals! They’ve never let me down. I added Clio from Julep to give my characteristic sparkle, and came up with this:

wpid-20140803_143902.jpg

Since I had to climb Mount Laundry yesterday, I needed something quick, and for me, nothing dries quicker than glitter polish. The downside is that it’s a booger to take off, but it’s a trade off I was willing to take. The decals are called Aflorable.

Coming up tomorrow: a premiere! (Barring any unforeseen circumstances, of course.)

See you then!

Sally Hansen Gel Manicure: Part 2

Remember I told y’all that I would keep the manicure to test for wear?

I did my nails Thursday night. I worked Friday and had the weekend off. These are the pics I took Sunday morning:

wpid-20140727_115513.jpgwpid-20140727_115528.jpg

Yeah. And that’s my left hand, which doesn’t show as much wear as my right. The glitter nail on my right hand is already coming up. I will chalk that to the glitter layer being thick, but this chipping nonsense?

Basically, I got about the same wear time out of this gel manicure that I get out of my standard polish. It was pretty while it lasted, though!

Nail Adventures: Sally Hansen Gel Manicure

Life has slowed down, at least a bit. So, after I had some delicious sushi, I decided to do my nails.

I managed to find the Sally Hansen Gel Manicure kit at a steep discount, so I thought, why not? I’ve never done a gel manicure, and this way I can try it out myself.

Why no gel? Gel manis focus on long wear. I get antsy about my nail polish after about two days and I want to change it. Gel manicures you have to soak and scrape off, and ugh.

Ain’t nobody got time for that.

But then, the application is quick. And for me, that’s the tedious part, particularly if I’m doing designs: waiting for the layers to dry. Gel manis? 30 second cure, move on to next layer.

And that is something I DO have time for.

So, I figured, why not give it a try?

wpid-wp-1406165970630.jpg

I decided this is a situation where less is more, since I’m navigating a whole new system with this manicure. I figured, maybe I’ll do an accent nail, use the nail guides, nothing too over the top.

And for what it’s worth, it is really easy to apply and really fast. I kept thinking that nothing was truly dry in between curing, but it was, so I was listening to music and having a delicious drink AND doing my nails without the fear of smudging. Win.

The bad part? Trying to design!

Ok. So the original plan for my accent nails was to lay down some of that silver there (name is Hi Ho Silver), lay down two of the chevron nail guides in a diamond shape, and cover in the red. Basically, I should have had a silver diamond outline on my nails.

That…did not happen, because I couldn’t get the damn nail guides to stick!

So, here’s the thing. While you do an at home gel mani, the polish feels sticky between layers even though it’s dry. So I’m thinking it shouldn’t be that difficult for the nail guide to stick. They stick on standard dry polish with no issues. Well, I was mighty wrong in that aspect. They slid and shifted as though my nail and the guides were covered in some type of oil. I thought maybe the adhesive on the guides wore off or something, but they stuck to my skin just fine. Color me confused.

I got them to lay long enough to put some glitter inside the little diamond shape. I was basically holding the nail guides taut on my skin to try and create some kind of shape at this point. It’s ok, I guess. I did just a solid glitter accent on the other hand which I liked better, but not by much:

The red, by the way, is called Red My Lips.

Meh. I have never been so underwhelmed by a manicure in my life. I don’t know if it’s the color, the glitter, or what. I’m not impressed with this work. But I will say the shine on my nails is awesome, and it really is quick and easy. I was done in under 30 minutes, and that was with scrambling around looking for some glitter to put on. I think if I were one who prefers to keep just one color on my nails (or an undesigned accent nail) I would like it more.

For science, I’m keeping this on to get a feel for how this stands up to work, and let y’all know (it’s coming off next Wednesday, though.) Unless I just get too irritated with my hands and take it off tomorrow. We’ll see.

Hey, never a bad thing to try something new! I may keep playing around with it to see if there’s a look I like in gel, but I think I’ll stick to standard for now.

Happy weekend, y’all!

Quick Hit: Weekend Manicure

Hey folks!

I showed you a bit of the manicure I had on this weekend in yesterdays post (the pics with the rings), so I figured I’d give you the closeup:

wpid-img_20140613_224113.jpg

I did the Sally Hansen Salon Effects in Sweet Marble Floret, and the ring fingers are done in Julep’s Fina. I do love me some Sally Hansen nail stickers, because it gives you a polished (ha! I crack myself up πŸ˜€ ) look very quickly. I was tired and ready to go to bed, basically, and this was quick. πŸ™‚

I have some outfit posts coming for the rest of the week. Happy Wednesday!

Quick Hit: This Weekend’s Mani

Hey folks!

I am rounding that homestretch right before vacation. You know the one I mean.

It’s only a few days, but it feels like time is ticking backwards till you can finally have a drink or 4 and sleep in the next morning.

πŸ™‚

Anyhow, I realize I didn’t show you a manicure last week, and that’s because I didn’t really have time to do one because of Super Important Work Stuff. I just took the opportunity to let my nails breathe a bit.

But the night before Super Important Meeting, I stopped by the store to grab some pantyhose and some Sally Hansen nail stickers caught my eye.

Reverse manicure. Nice!

wpid-20140605_220650.jpg

Disk-O Queen!

So, the box made it as though the half moon was matte and the rest of the look was glitter, but I was pleasantly surprised to see that it’s glittery top to bottom! There are a couple more reverse french looks I want to try, as well as some twists on the classic french I’m picking up soon. Totally a go to when I just don’t have the time to do a full nail look but want to be polished.

Hmm. Nail design or stickers this week? Stay tuned!
