New Year Shoe Candy

So, last Friday I gave y’all some ideas for really cute outfits for New Year’s Eve.

Now, y’all can’t go out barefoot, right? Unless you’re headed to a beach or something (if you are, take me with you!)

So: here are a few choices for some really pretty shoes, from heels to loafers. Let’s go!

The front…

And the back of these beauties from Aminah Abdul Jillil.

These aren’t two toned, by the way. The front view only came in the blush color, and the back only in the black. But OMG, how glorious are these?! These are way too high for my ankles to handle, but honey, you’re gonna turn heads in these bejeweled beauties. Wear these with a dramatic side slit gown or even a cute romper that needs a little jazzing up.

Ankle tie flats, also from Aminah Abdul Jillil.

If you feel like you need a little more stability, how about these little pointy toe flats? I love that something that can usually be too plain to go out is given a little extra oomph by the bow tie on the side. So cute!

Pop of floral brightness. From JustFab.

I like a quirky statement piece. This is perfect for either a big night out or a low key house party. Bonus: the heel isn’t too high!

Glitzy, because it wouldn’t be me otherwise! From JustFab.

Bring on the dramatic high sparkly heel! Alright, these are again to high for me, but oooh, how pretty! This is for that girl going out for a glam night out on the town and they need their shoes to shine!

Booties. From Nine West.

I love a bootie to go with a jumpsuit or a pair of pants. I mean, not everyone wants to wear a dress on NYE. What if you need to drop it like it’s hot? You need some coverage, and this pair helps to add to the sleekness of a pantsuit or romper.

Sparkly flat! From Nine West.

You can never, ever go wrong with a glitter flat. Makes any outfit ten times more glam and you’re comfortable! I did a pair last year, but they cut up my poor toe by the end of the evening. They were still cute though!

Loafers. Yes! From Nine West.

I adore a loafer, especially when it’s this sleek and chic. I also adore menswear, and am now incorporating more masculine elements into my dress. I would do this shoe with a black jumpsuit that’s tapered at the ankle, and one of those gorgeous cape-style blazers on top. Such a classy way to bring in the new year!

Next up: let’s finish off your looks with some jewels and bags, shall we? See you Friday!

New Shoe Happiness, or A Story Of My Feet

I am coming to the end of an ongoing saga with my feet. For years they’ve swollen (along with my ankles) at the least amount of provocation: either it’s too cold, it’s too hot, it decided to rain or snow, it was a full moon, whatever.

And I couldn’t figure out why.

I went to see a podiatrist who recommended a series of injections. Because me and regular anesthesia don’t get along (ahem, it doesn’t work on me), I had to endure every single prick of the needle.

And it didn’t work.

Another year and change went by with me having to wrap my ankle or elevate it on my lunch break before I decided I wasn’t cured, like my previous podiatrist said I was. He also suggested weight loss would help, as did others around me. I even thought it would help, for a time.

Here’s the problem with that: it’s pretty damned difficult to work out when it hurts to STAND, let alone walk on a treadmill or do something as strenuous as CrossFit. I did yoga for years, but the pain and tingling even made doing something as simple as Tree Pose hurt.

So, this past December I found another doctor who looked at my ankles, took an x-ray, and discovered in about 10 minutes what my previous doctor hadn’t in months of treatment:

It wasn’t my joints. It’s my ligaments. Mostly that they’re weakened from life, and previous activities I did when I was younger.

Never once said a word about weight loss. Apparently, this is a common ailment that happens over time. Funny how that works.

After an MRI to rule out a torn ligament, I now have a brand new set of orthotics and an order to wear sneakers at work.

Now, I can’t always wear the sneakers depending on what has to be done that day, but I make it a point to wear them as often as possible. And for the first time in years, I actually went home after a long workday without swollen, achy feet and ankles. The orthotics realign my feet for me.

All this back story goes to how over the years, flats have been my life. Now, don’t get me wrong–I love flats. But all of the heels I’ve known and loved over the years I ended up giving away because my feet hurt too bad to wear them for even the tiniest time. I’ve missed them. Some outfits just aren’t the same without a bold heel to balance it out.

Now that I have some resolution, I’m hoping that with time and me getting back to yoga to further strengthen my feet, I can wear some pretty shoes for my birthday month (I celebrate the whole month. I turn 30, so I’m partying for 30 days. ^_^)

These will hopefully be part of the rotation:

These lovely spiked numbers are from JustFab.

I’m feeling better, and hopefully, I can regain a part of me lost to the pain. But don’t worry, I won’t go overboard. Just enough to pose and be fierce. 🙂

Fatshionista Vacation: Full Figured Fashion Week: Shoe Catastrophe

Wednesday, I spent the day soaking up some good plus size fashion.

Full Figured Fashion Week (FFF Week hereafter) started Monday, but my first day of events was yesterday.

So, yesterday morning, I headed into the city to attend a seminar on social media. It covered how to work it and how to make it work for you: approaching brands and how to build your own brand.

It was hosted by Marie Denee of The Curvy Fashionista, and the panel included some top brands and bloggers in the game:

DSC_0011DSC_0017

It was highly informative, and I will be using what I learned to make this blog even better for y’all. 🙂

The shoe catastrophe happened on the way to the venue.

So I’m walking down the block in a pair of espadrilles I’ve had for years. As I get to the building, I hear a soft, but still audible, rip. I pause.

I’ll mention here I had to come through a construction site to get to the venue.

Now, I’m thinking I have ripped my dress. I start to panic and feel myself up on the pavement, checking for skin showing that ought not be. Nothing. Hmm, odd. Maybe it wasn’t me.

I take a step and feel a “flop” against my heel.

These are not flip flops I had on. These were heels. I look down.

Damn it. Sigh. 😦 I love these shoes, but the left one was completely wrecked. Luckily, I had a pair of actual flip flops in my bag. After the seminar, I decided to stop and pick up some glue to repair my shoe. I then got a good look at the right one. It’s starting to come apart too! Unbelievable.

The heat yesterday would not have allowed the glue to set properly, and I had another event to get to. So what did I do instead?

I stopped by Payless and got some new shoes:

wpid-img_20140618_132603.jpg

I wanted them in this cool aqua, but they didn’t have my size. 😦 Neutral worked just as well. With new shoes on, I headed to my second event: Curves Rule Everything Around Me (CREAM) Pop Up Shop. Presented by Nicole Grier of Feminine Funk. It was hosted by Chante of Everything Curvy and Chic and Peggy of On the Q Train. It was an evening of shopping, food, and drinks:

DSC_0024DSC_0019DSC_0021DSC_0022

I had the honor of meeting the owner of Black Sheep Cosmetics, and I was her very first customer! The whole crew was super sweet, and I can’t wait to show off the blue lipstick I purchased.

Tonight is the Curves in the City trunk show, and I am excited to wear an outfit that scares me to death but looks good at the same time.

No spoilers! Unless you follow me on Instagram. 🙂

See you tomorrow!

Thrifty Thursday: Instagram Sales

Hello, my lovelies! I need to finish reorganizing my house, but I didn’t want to leave y’all hanging for another day with no post! So, I rounded up some great deals I found on my Instagram feed to share with you.

First up is Lane Bryant. They have 50% off site wide with the code FLOWERSLB. You only have today to take advantage (I’ll have to catch next week’s deal instead.)

Eloquii has 30% off your entire purchase plus free shipping with the code OURGIFT. I am loving the relaunch, and am hoping to snag one of their gorgeous dresses for my birthday dinner next month. Curious? It’s this one. So pretty!

Because one should also deep clean their face as well as their houses, Julep is offering a free cleansing sponge with the purchase of their Bare Face cleansing oil. Use code DEEPCLEAN at checkout. Also, you can score 50% off of team duos and full priced nail colors using code MADNESS at checkout. Both deals expire March 31st.

Since I wanted to get y’all covered top to bottom, JustFab has a code for you to save 30% off of wedges. Use code FBFANWEDGES30 at checkout. Bonus: if you earned FabCash earlier this month, you can use both of these promos together! I snagged 3 pairs of shoes for $52 using this combo. I am all about balling on a budget whenever possible!

Now, I’m off to finish the day’s housecleaning. Happy shopping!

Cleaning Out My Closet

I am a bit of a hoarder when it comes to clothes and shoes. Every piece in my closet has a story. My silver glittery shoes I wore to my first Valentine’s Day dinner with my ex. My favorite blue dress that makes me feel fierce no matter where I’m headed. My favorite jeans that hug my curves just right.

It always pains me to let these items go. Those silver shoes hurt my feet, because they’re too small. My favorite blue dress gets way more play in my wardrobe than the 2039 other dresses I have–it can rest for a while. I have a hole in those curve hugging jeans, but I look so good in them! I just can’t let them go!

What I wonder is if it is the clothes I can’t let go, or the thought that the memory attached to them will disappear when the clothes leave.

The memory will always be there, or course, but I always like to think of the reason I have a certain item whenever I wear it.

Now, if I wear it and all I can think is “damn, my feet hurt!”, I think that misses the point of the happy memory.

So, I cleaned all of the stuff I don’t wear/can’t fit/no longer love out of my closet and decided to replace it with some new items. Starting with those gorgeous silver shoes I got from Steve Madden.

I replaced them with these:

Celestine, Millie, and Prowess from JustFab.

The rule I stick with is: if I buy one, I have to give away one. So now my friend will be able to make new memories with the silver shoes, and I’m looking forward to wearing these shoes with those jeans with a hole (still can’t let them go!)

If only the weather would cooperate.

So, Before the Snowpocalypse Came…

I attended a wedding and got to dress up!

With my work schedule, it doesn’t happen often, so I decided to take as much advantage as I could. I had time to shop a massive sale at Lane Bryant and picked up some dresses. The dress I wore in yesterday’s New Year’s post was one dress, and this was the other one I picked up:

20131228_124305

I had to add a cami underneath (because, helloooo, boobs! also, cold), and put on a wrap (because sleeveless, and, again, cold). It’s black with copper dots on it, and it’s so pretty.

It’s a rarity for me to get to wear heels too, because retail+heels=bad day for Char. So, I picked up these beauties:

20131228_134558

Got ’em from Payless! Copper, gold, and a smidge of green, so pretty!

And I’m gonna take a minute here to vent a bit: hi, shoe stores? Some of us wear 10 1/2 to 11 shoes. Some of us also want said 10 1/2 to 11 shoe to be PRETTY, dammit. Don’t be giving me clodhoppers because I have big feet. There is NO reason for that. Please to have that in stock, for the love of all that is glittery. Thanks.

The day’s makeup: neutral as usual. But I love how it came out.

20131228_093116

The best part was I finally got to use my Urban Decay Vice 2 palette. The lip is a Sephora lipstick that’s probably past it’s prime but I love it so.

And finally? The nails, of course! There’s no way I go to a wedding and not have them done! But again, nice and neutral:

IMG_20131228_013007

Apparently, this outfit was all about the black, brown, and metallic. Whole mani is Julep, and I’m sure you’ll recognize the gold flakes as Gianna. I have gotten more mileage out of that polish than I thought I would. It’s an awesome touch of sparkle where you need it.

And there you have it! I’m gonna go bury myself under the covers until it thaws outside (or until I have to get dressed in the morning. -_-) Until next time, stay beautiful!

Quick Hit: New Shoes!

Hi lovelies! I decided to do some housework today, so the manicure will have to wait. I nearly forgot I have class tonight! In the meantime, I did go shoe shopping, and picked up a pair that I said I wanted in my last post:

image

The blue isn’t as bright as it is in the picture online, but that’s ok, as I will be able to coordinate it with more outfits that way. Ok, off to get ready for class. New manicure post should be up by Wednesday. Until then, stay beautiful!
